However, black and white varieties do exist. The long tail of the Phoenix rooster is black. These fancy feathers do not fall out when the rooster goes through its annual molt. Standard Phoenix roosters weigh about four or five pounds, and the bantam version weighs about two pounds. The scale-covered legs are yellow, and Phoenix roosters have a single, bright red comb and red ears. Breeding Like most chickens, Phoenix roosters reach maturity around six months of age. They will fight with other roosters for mating privileges with the hens. A rooster will mount a hen and fertilize her eggs by touching his cloaca to hers.
